She The Cockroach: Baring AI Fangs & Hissing Innuendos
The Gen Z youngsters—affectionately dubbed "cockroaches"—have pulled off a uniquely successful street movement in India. The ruling Hindu Nationalist BJP, whose 56" Chest thumping Vishwaguru (world leader) persona intimidation had kept everyone coerced for the past twelve years—from the opposition, civil society, mainstream media, and even the judiciary—was brought to its knees by Gen Z, led by girls in just five days.
Gen Z represents the roughly 750 million youth under the age of thirty in modern India. It was a movement covered not just wholesomely but repeatedly too by media outlets stretching from the East to the West of the globe, from Tokyo to Los Angeles—including every region in between.
This movement was defined by six distinct traits: speed, scale, creativity, atmosphere, issue, and the use of AI. Between a Saturday and a Monday, in July, whether at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, Patna, or Bengaluru, these "cockroaches" suddenly swarmed the streets like a swarm of locusts. Yet, everywhere they went, the atmosphere remained carnivalesque celebratory. The core issue was simple: a demand for accountability from the Education Minister. From physical streets to Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, every digital nook and cranny was flooded with brilliant, out-of-the-box posters and content.
The Weaponization of Language and Its Reversal
In post-2014 India, the BJP normalized the use of innuendos and double-entendres in public discourse. In colloquial English, this is known as a "dog whistle"—much like a hunter using a specific frequency whistle to activate hunting hounds. Derogatory slurs and coded nicknames for opposition leaders, slangs like Tukde Tukde Gang for intellectuals, and Puncturewallah for communities have become commonplace in social discourse today. Even educated, sophisticated intellectuals who would never have used such language before 2014 now toss them around as casual lingua franca.
Countering this kind of coded grammar is notoriously difficult because doing so usually forces opponents to lower the level of their own discourse. But Gen Z’s "cockroaches" found a brilliant workaround. The girls began boldly tweaking, twisting, and throwing the BJP's own rhetorical fragments right back at them. Across protest sites like Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and social media, these young women pasted images of BJP’s own sermons like Lavanena Bhojyam, 56" Chest, and Sanitary pads leaking less than NEET exam paper onto the collective forehead of the entire BJP establishment as a core mantra—far more vividly than any erudite counter-argument could.
The young women openly embraced the borderline vulgar, aggressive discourse that the BJP ecosystem had cultivated for twelve years. By doing so, they snatched the whistle right out of the hands of the masters and their hounds, turning the rest of Gen Z into hunters and forcing the Modi government to abject surrender to all their demands. They even went a step further and used AI tools not as a suggestion giver, but by having adversarial conversations with AI chatbots -like a chess opponent to know what all tricks BJP would play on them. Once fear of unknown evaporates, bravery sets in. GenZ didn't use AI just to seek help, rather they prompted it into adversarial roleplay. Exactly why we saw Girls sweetly enquiring police about when they'll lob teargas -because role playing AI had told them SOP of police and modus operandi of BJP even before the twin could unleash it.
Moreover, the sheer courage with which these girls faced the police—whether enduring baton charges or tear gas—was paired with a disarmingly sweet tone:
"Uncle, when are you going to hit us?"
"Is the gas canister stuck or what?"
"Lathi-charge by day, party charge up by night!"
This playful defiance completely neutralized the tension, turning a protest into a vibrant festival.
To those idol-worship tilted religious folks, the Gen Z girls of the week of July 20th resembled a literal reincarnation of the raging Goddess Kali—before whom, not just demons, even Gods meekly surrendered without a whimper, as per ancient Indian mythology.
The Secret Weapon: AI
Behind all of this was Gen Z’s smart use & deployment of AI—the artificial intelligence readily available right inside their smartphones. Information Technology and AI are two entirely different things: technology is like an idle lying luxury car owned by a wealthy owner who doesn't drive, whereas AI is the world-class chauffeur that comes free with that car.
Sitting right there at the protest sites, Gen Z utilized ChatGPT to whip up memes and cartoons on the fly, placing instant orders through e-commerce apps to have supplies delivered straight to the protest grounds within ten minutes. Food and essentials poured into the hands of hundreds of thousands of youth at protest sites, ordered online from as far away as the Andaman Islands and the United States. All of this was powered by AI.
This integration of AI turned a slow-moving, crawling snake overnight into a venomous serpent with fangs, for which even the world’s top technocrats & savvy governments are yet to find an antidote.
Where Did the BJP Lose?
Even the mightiest lion can take on another lion, but it will inevitably lose to a swarm of bees. Whenever a centralized power structure collides with decentralized units, power always loses. Moreover, the BJP has morphed into an intensely personality-driven entity. A nation of 1.4 billion people is a team—not a vehicle for a single-iconoclast marketing campaign like the BJP's publicity machine.
The BJP fails to recognize the foundational concepts of both ancient Indian culture & 21st-century world’s best governance practices: neither the Vedic term "Gan" (collective assembly) nor the 1950 Constitution’s phrase "We, the People"—both of which are plural. So are most of the developed countries of the world, where governance is distributed from Federal entities to local county/canton level units. The BJP has been serving a corrupted, modern distortion of ancient Indian culture to the public.
Armed with AI, a decentralized Gen Z confronted a personality-cult politics with a system-focused issue—and fought back bravely using the establishment's own crude lingo. In doing so, they have laid out a cutting-edge blueprint for successful future protests worldwide. It is highly likely we will see this model replicated elsewhere: AI-assisted people's movements.
Why Did the "Carefree" Gen Z Take to the Streets?
Because this younger generation, watching global systems unfold on their phones every second, quickly realized a harsh truth: while governments worldwide collect taxes from citizens to provide security, governance in India has degraded into a perverse dynamic where the state punishes the public while treating itself to pelf.
On top of this, these 750 million youth realized something else: no matter how hard they work, they will never be able to accumulate as much wealth in their entire lifetimes as their parents did. The system is fundamentally broken, and so are the opportunities. Even top economists like Rathin Roy have empirically presented this fact.
Surplus Savings Collapse: Building wealth requires surplus savings. Savings are what buy assets. In 2011, an average Indian family saved nearly 15 percent of its monthly income; by 2026, that figure had plummeted to under 10 percent.
The Housing Gap: In 2011, it took roughly 68 months of salary to buy a two-bedroom apartment in a growing city like Hyderabad. By 2026, even 190 months of salary isn't enough to secure a home in a Mumbai suburb.
Land is finite. Yet the BJP's economic policy has involved handing over thousands of acres of expensive, fertile lands leased away to favourite corporates for a single rupee—while simultaneously buying cheap land from impoverished locals in places like Ayodhya and flipping it to trusts moments later at twenty-five times the price.
This political scissor-effect—where the public gets punished while the ruling class enjoys the spoils—simultaneously shrinks market land supply and skyrockets prices. Gen Z understands this math completely.
What Comes Next?
Political commentators may waste time speculating on what the protesters will do next now that the immediate demonstrations have wrapped up, but in reality, this movement poses a far greater existential threat to the BJP itself.
Centralization, hyper-personalization, and a twisted definition of state power are bound to pay a heavy toll when a smart Gen Z decides to rally behind a decentralized movement, a system-focused agenda, and a firm demand for security rather than state-sponsored oppression.
A generational shift has taken place in India over the past week. This new generation has soared into a sky defined by a completely fresh—yet correct—understanding of society:
